Youngstock development

Early growth depends on colostrum, hygiene, consistent milk feeding, water, starter quality and a controlled weaning transition.

Forage variability

Silage and hay define both the biological limit and much of the ration cost. Current dry-matter and laboratory analyses are essential.

Rumen balance

Effective fibre, fermentable carbohydrate, degradable protein, bypass protein and fat must support stable microbial fermentation.

Condition & transition

Body condition, intake, minerals, space and health risk converge around calving. The transition must be managed as a system.

TMR consistency

Incorrect dry-matter correction, mixing, heating or sorting can move the ration far from what was formulated on paper.

Water, comfort & heat

Access to clean water, feed-bunk space, lying time and proactive cooling protect intake before nutritional density is adjusted.
